Cubby Construction delivered a programme of specialist civil engineering works near Maryport, Cumbria, involving the construction of a new Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) storage system.
The project formed part of wider efforts to improve wastewater infrastructure and reduce the frequency of stormwater discharges into the local environment.
The scheme involved the construction of a substantial underground storage structure, alongside associated screening and flow control infrastructure, designed to provide additional capacity within the existing sewer network during periods of increased rainfall.
The works centred on the construction of a 65-metre-long reinforced concrete box culvert storage tank, measuring 2 metres wide and 1 metre deep, providing approximately 130 cubic metres of storage capacity.
The underground structure was designed to temporarily retain excess wastewater and stormwater during periods of increased flow, helping to manage pressure on the existing sewerage infrastructure.
Additional works included the construction of a dedicated screen chamber and the installation of flow control equipment to regulate the movement of wastewater through the system.
The new infrastructure was connected to the existing sewer network and outfall, integrating the additional storage and control facilities into the established drainage system.
