Questions and Answers from a Trainee Estimator

  1. What is an Estimator?
“An Estimator is responsible for calculating the costs of a project before work commences, covering everything from materials, labour, equipment hire, transport costs and everything in between.”
  2. Why become a Trainee Estimator?
“I’ve been able to earn while I learn, going to college one day per week and in the office or on site the other 4 days. If you enjoy problem solving, have a good attention to detail and like working with numbers – Estimating could be for you! It’s also important to have great communication skills and able to build relationships with a variety of external sub-contractors.”
  3. What are you currently working on?
“I’m currently working on a tender for a church refurbishment near Carlisle. It’s my first solo project?”
