The Opportunity
We are looking for an Assistant Buyer / Buyer to join our Procurement team based in Carlisle.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for construction and supply chain management to play a key role in supporting our procurement operations across multiple projects.
You’ll help source materials, subcontractors, and plant hire efficiently, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with company standards. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys collaboration, and takes pride in delivering value through effective procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure materials, subcontractors, and plant in line with project and budgetary requirements.
- Interpret contract information to understand project needs, including scheduling and specification clarifications.
- Manage the full purchase-to-pay process, ensuring accuracy and timely recordkeeping.
- Support other departments (accounts, estimating, commercial) to optimise overall business performance.
- Attend internal and external meetings as required to support project delivery.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure best practice, efficiency, and risk mitigation.
- Liaise with suppliers to develop and maintain strong supply chain relationships.
- Maintain and review the approved suppliers register, monitoring performance and feedback.
- Research innovative products, suppliers, and processes to enhance competitiveness.
- Ensure compliance with Cubby Group’s ISO and EOS management systems, as well as industry standards.
- Visit project sites to gain a deeper understanding of construction processes.
- Perform other duties as required to support the efficient operation of the business.
About You
- Experience in the construction or plant industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel (experience with Eque2 an advantage).
- Full UK driving licence required.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong numerical, written, and verbal communication abilities.
- Curious and proactive, eager to learn about construction processes and products.
- Team player with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Enthusiastic, committed, and adaptable with a professional attitude.
- Able to work effectively under pressure, managing multiple priorities.
