Cubby Construction took part in the official ceremony to celebrate the opening of Carlisle Market Hall’s new food court and newly refurbished toilets after carrying out works to reimagine the historic 5,000 sq ft space.

Partnering with Bearmont Group and Cumberland Council, as well as Knightsbridge House Interior Design, Cubby played a key role within the regeneration project.

The project has created a modern, flexible space celebrating the Market Hall’s history and will attract more visitors to both the hall and the city, supporting local businesses in the fast-growing independent food scene and beyond.

Cubby’s work included the refurbishment of the existing toilets and demolition of two existing stalls, the installation of a high-quality timber floor levelling system and bespoke metal balustrade, and the creation of a snug, bandstand area and tiered seating.

All work was carried out on time and to specification with minimal disruption. The works were supported by a dedicated sub-contract team which included Metal Work Solutions, Fine Flooring & Carpets, A&W Irving Decoration, John Cook Signs, NW Fire, Times Group, Robert Birks Plumbing & Heating, DG Project Solutions and Tile Form.

Members of Cumberland Council along with Carlisle MP Julie Minns opened the food hub and Cubby Construction marked the special occasion by donating £5,000 to the Sense charity.

The charity is being championed by Bearmont Group chief executive Rob Lloyd, who has raised tens of thousands of pounds for it through a series of James Bond-inspired challenges.

Sense supports 1.6 million disabled people with complex needs in the UK, offering personalised, creative and flexible support in homes, communities and specialist centres.

Cubby Construction contracts manager Mark Griffin, who presented the cheque to Sense, said: “It was great for us to be part of the opening ceremony. The Market Hall is an integral part of Carlisle city centre and we are proud to be playing a part in making it a focal point for the community once again.

“The project generates significant social value, bringing people together and helping to support local businesses and the thriving food scene. It was great to see so many people at the opening and I know this will be a huge success.

“Working with Bearmont Group and Cumberland Council has been a pleasure and the vision for the Market Hall and the city has been really inspiring.

“We were also delighted to do our bit to help Rob Lloyd’s amazing charity efforts. We are a community-minded business and are always looking to support great causes – and there can be no better cause than Sense’s work to improve the lives of people with complex needs.”

Rob Lloyd marked his appreciation of Cubby’s donation to his chosen charity and commented that he was delighted with the great work Cubby Construction carried out to refurbishing the public toilets and the new food hall.

He acknowledged the efforts of the team, highlighting Mark Griffin, Paul Lewis and Adam Seymore for their outstanding running and management of the project.
