Cavendish Dock Road Junction Improvements – Unlocking Growth in Barrow-in-Furness
Cubby Construction, working on behalf of Westmorland and Furness Council, successfully delivered major infrastructure improvements at Cavendish Dock Road in Barrow-in-Furness. The goal was clear: improve connectivity to the Marina Village regeneration site and pave the way for new development.

Initially, the existing junction posed a significant constraint to both traffic flow and investment. Therefore, we introduced a new right-turn priority junction, strategically linking Cavendish Dock Road to the Strand and Salthouse Road. As a result, access in and out of the area improved immediately, laying the foundation for future private sector growth.

To achieve this, our team delivered a full suite of civil engineering works. We installed effective drainage systems, followed by thorough carriageway resurfacing. In addition, we laid new kerbing to shape the updated layout. Moreover, we installed underground service ducts to support future utility requirements. Alongside this, we introduced new street lighting to improve visibility and safety. Finally, we completed the scheme with crisp road markings and clear signage.

Throughout the project, we worked within a live traffic environment. Consequently, we implemented phased works, maintained communication with stakeholders, and prioritised safety. Thanks to this, disruption remained minimal for businesses and residents.

Beyond construction, this junction now removes a key obstacle to wider regeneration. In turn, the scheme supports housing, commercial development, and community growth.

Ultimately, this project demonstrates Cubby Construction’s ability to deliver transport infrastructure upgrades that enable long-term investment. By improving connectivity, we continue to support economic development across the North West—one junction at a time.
