Role Overview

General Construction Operatives / labourers  plays a flexible , hands-on role on building sites supporting skilled tradespeople and keeping operations running smoothly. The exact duties vary by project, but the key responsibilities usually include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping skilled tradespeople with every aspect of the building process.
  • Following all health and safety procedures.
  • Site preparation, clearing debris, setting up temporary structures and preparing materials.
  • Loading and unloading, moving tools, equipment and building materials around the site
  • Assisting trades people such as joiners, bricklayers, plasterers, civil engineers and the likes
  • Basic construction work, digging trenches, mixing concrete / cement using simple tools and machinery
  • Preparing materials such as cement and plaster.
  • Cleaning and maintenance, keeping the site tidy and safe to work in.
  • Following safety procedures and wearing PPE
  • Identifying hazards and reporting risks
  • Maintaining and safely storing tools and equipment
  • Under supervision, measuring cutting and preparing materials
  • Under supervision, pouring concrete for foundations, walls, beams and floors.
  • Ensuring materials are used efficiently and stored correctly
  • Transporting, stacking, and removing tools, equipment and materials.
  • Taking instructions from site agent / foremen / supervisors / tradespersons
  • Working collaboratively with different trades and construction team.
  • General ad-hoc duties

Skills & Attributes

Essential

  • Being punctual and dependable
  • Adapting to different tasks as project needs change

Desirable but not essential

  • Tele – handler / forward tipping dumper training
  • Driving licence
  • CSCS / CPCS / NPORS cards
