Riversdale Homes are a person centric housing group who focus on providing high quality settled accommodation to individuals, incorporating their assessed needs and enabling a plethora of personal choice.

Working in conjunction with carers, care providers, housing associations, local authorities, clinical commissioning groups and other stakeholders to develop, a safe, secure and high-quality accommodation to meet the individuals needs.

The project saw the conversion of a former 3 storey hotel, located on a main road, within walking distance of Carlisle city centre, into 9 self-contained, studio apartments with ancillary accommodation for people in supported living situations.

The residential refurbishment included a full relocation of the existing utilities, services and partition walls. Repairs and updates to the exterior, interior and façade of the building.

Works included: the demolition and removal of stairs, landings, internal and external door sets. In depth asbestos survey and asbestos removal. Relocation of kitchens, bathrooms and en suites. The preparation of internals for redecoration, including wallpaper removal, tile removal, plastering, replacing floors and skirtings. Replacement of existing entrance. Removal of all suspended ceilings. Masonry conservation, brick and block cavity walling. Repointing to front elevation. Re-roofing sections and reusing roof slates where possible.

An additional staircase and softwood handrails were fabricated within the Cubby Joinery Workshop, providing access from the former restaurant side of the building to upstairs apartments.

All staircases, balustrading and handrails re-painted. Several windows and the external front door replaced and sealed. Natural slate, softwood treated battens and breathable membrane. Repairs were conducted where necessary on the eaves and verges.

Loft spaces were insulated using Mineral wool insulation, Rockwool Roll 140mm thick. Improved the acoustic value of the walls and sound proofed throughout the upper floors.
