Q&A with Callum
How did you first learn about the opportunity at Cubby, or how did you go about applying for the role?
Well, I took a proactive approach and reached out to several companies in the area via email. Luckily, Cubby responded, and after my initial interview, it became clear that they were the perfect fit for me, leading to my eventual apprenticeship.
What aspect of working for Cubby and your role do you find most intriguing?
The most fascinating part for me is gaining a unique perspective on the construction industry. It’s not just about the practical side; everyone contributes significantly to the outcome.
What unexpected benefits have you discovered since joining Cubby?
The most unexpected perks have been the chance to interact with diverse and interesting individuals in the construction industry. I’ve also been presented with opportunities I never anticipated at this stage in my life.
What advice would you offer to someone looking to join Cubby or pursue a career in construction?
Don’t hesitate to network and put yourself out there. Showcase your abilities in the most impactful way possible.
What drew you to Cubby in the first place?
Having witnessed the impressive work Cubby had done in my local area and recognizing the scale of their business, I was eager to become a part of it.
How have you taken advantage of training and development opportunities at Cubby?
Cubby provided me with the opportunity to pursue a degree in Quantity Surveying at Edinburgh Napier University, my university of choice. Additionally, being part of the CECA Foundations Team has allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals and participate in events beyond the scope of work.
Looking ahead, where do you envision yourself in the next 3-5 years?
I see myself as a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor, hopefully still contributing my skills and gaining more experience with Cubby in the dynamic world of construction.
Beyond work, what are your interests and how do you spend your free time?
Outside of work, I’m an avid golfer, occupying a significant portion of my free time. I also enjoy outdoor activities with friends and family, always eager to try new things and create memorable experiences.
